Default Rugger 10/22 =.17match 2,17HMR

I was seaching the web today on a few of the gunauction websites.I seen two diffrent rugger 10/22 that said they where convirted to a .17 match 2 and the other was converted to a 17HMR.I did see the bull barrel say .17 cal and the other 17HMR.The auction said rugger 10/22.Has anbody done this to a 10/22 and if so what do I have to do to convert it.Also if you can post your photo of your rugger 10/22's on here that whould be great.I am looking to see what style I like. What looks good on what kind or thing.I will be building one as my Cristmas Gift to myself and as a reward on getting my new job in the hardest state to find work which is Michigan.

It's an easy conversion. You obviously would need a new bbl and then a new bolt handle. It operates on the wieght of the bolt assembly so having the differnt weight bolt handle gives the mass required for the different cartridge. The .17 HMR can only be made using the 10/22 magnum action while the .17M2 can be made on the standard 10/22 action. I've made a .17M2 conversion myself using an ER Shaw bbl and a MR bolt hanld. can't comment of it's operation as I'm not quite finished - gotta mount optics. For a LOT more info go to www.Rimfirecentral.com it's THE home for anything and everything 10/22 related. Go there, read, search and read some more and all your question will likely have already been answered. A thread in th "Ultimate" section of 10/22 discussions has a long thread with a LOT of members finished projects to give you ideas.
Here's a few of mine:

Have 1 more in mid completion,3 more stocks for builds and at least 2 more planned after those are done. It can be very addicting!

wow that is nice! I have a ruger 10/22 that just sits there... How much would it take to put a bull barrel and a stock like the one in the bottom pic? Do the barrels just unscrew?

That's a factory stock and a GM firesight bbl.with a TT Shooter trigger. You could get a similar stock from a number ofretailers or look on eBay for one. The bbl, Green mountainr for a slightly better price, Hornet products. Figure a couple hundred without the trigger and starting with a standard model 10/22.Oh, it's shoots like a dream. Better than I expected.
The bbl is an easy switch. After yo remove the stock, loosen the two allen head bolts under the bbl that tighten the bbl block. Remove these bolts and the bbl block and the bbl pulls out. Reverse this for re-instalation.

Try a Volquartsen. I bought one and evryone that has tried it bought their own. Essentially it is a 10/22.

Volquartsen has done a great amount for the 10/22. There are alternatives to thier products. Some of lesser quality and some better. Building ne's own gives a bit more of a personal touch and uniqueness to simply buying one of their models. They are indeed very nice and of high quality and performance. I'm actually to be using one of thier receivers in my very next build just to try something different.
