RE: Single shot rifles anyone ?
I'll let you know in a couple of days. I'm picking up my new H&R .308 tomorrow. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> I went with this rifle because of the positive comments from several on this list as well as guys in the shop where I'm buying. One guy I met had something like 16 of them. Since they are so cheap he just buys the whole new gun instead of switching out barrels. Some say that H&R isn't as good of quality as the Thompson. But I couldn't justify the extra $200. From my handling of the H&R it seems tight, well made, and has loads of personality. I can't wait to see the guys in camp when I pull out my new H&R. I'm no expert but I hear that singles are inherently accurate if you do your part. They also offer a bull barrel in the calibers you are considering. Good luck in your decision.

I have an Ultra Varmint in 243 Win. It shoots great. Very accurate rifle. Downed a deer with it last year. I sent the receiver back and had it fitted with a 45-70 Govt barrel. Now that is impressive. Talk about a big chunk of lead flying downrange and a tack driver to boot.

I and several family members have had several of these little guns in .22 hornet .223 243 270 and 30-30 for the money there tuff to bet . The triggers are a little heavy but most factory rifles are now these days. If you dont reload try a few different brands of factory shell to see which one works best in your rifle, I have seen several of these rifles trun out very good accuracy. I think youll be happy with one.

I have one in .223. I don't have a range around here to shoot at that is very close, so I just go out to the blm land. With cheap Win. ammo, I can get about 2" at about 125-150 yds. Not bad and I will be reloading here soon, So i will take some time to go to the range and get some groupings. Its just a fun gun to shoot, and yes the trigger is stiff, but not bad. NEF and H&R are the same company. The only problem I've had is when I shoot a lot and the barrel gets warm, I have to open the action a couple of times to get the shell out.
