Regarding refinishing, I'd recommend a 50/50 mixture of tung oil and mineral spirits. Apply by hand, wipe of excess. Several coats works well. If I'm not mistaken, Kimber uses that on their new, wooden stocked rifles. Good luck.

Someone told me one time to use a piece of cut glass ( being carefull not to cut yourself ) and scrape the old stuff off. He claims it works great, then use linspeed oil on the stock when done.
