If you keep the shots close and put it on a broadside shot ( double lung ) a deer aint got a chance. I use 45 gr hollow points, they are devestating.
but if your hunting 300lb northern deer Id step up to .223 or 22-250 using hollow points as well. The .22-250 with a 55 gr hollow points, leave some nasty holes.

Yeah, there is so many people out there that thinks they are some sort of pellet gun or something. I have a friend who took a moose down with one. It was about 150 yards away and nailed him right behind the ear and he dropped like a ton of bricks.

Several years ago i watched a documentary on Alaskan natives. They interviewedan old hunter. The guy had a beautiful old Model 70 Winchester in .22 Hornet. He was talking about killing polar bears with it. Someone said: "It's too small for polar bears." The old guy grinned and said that he waited until they opened their mouths and shot them in the roof of the mouth.Nearly laughed my rear off. It is all in picking the shot.

I usually pick my NEF iron sighted hornet over my NEF scoped .223 to hunt yotes. most of my shots are close range anyway, and I don't need the extra distance that the .223 gives. the 45 grain pill out of the hornet does everything I need.
