I agree with other posts. I own both I am using 270 now and really like its performance. If you can shoot the o6 and if you dont mind the little recoil it is the right choice. The bullet selection will cover most of all your hunting needs.

ORIGINAL: LOUISIANA WHITETAILS
Note I live in Louisiana (mostly woods hunting) No huge feilds and praries like that, and I just want the overall all around caliber.

I've had both 30-06 and .270 - I like the 270 better (both were Savages). The diff was... .270 didn't boot me as hard. In performance on deer, prob. no discernable diff. .270 slightly flatter and delivers more energy at long range than 30-06, unless you go to 180gr bullets in 30-06, in which case it will boot you a lot harder, and you're in overkill territory for LA whitetail anyhows.
Buy the one you like better, knowing .270 is a smidge flatter with whitetail loads, and doesn't boot as hard. If it were me... I'd opt for a .308.

Well guys I ended up getting a used Remington Model 700 ADL synthetic in .270 WINwith a Tasco 3-9x40 scope. The gun was my dads boss and it is in excellent condition. I payed $300 for the gun, and it shoots extremely well.

I'd work on that scope though.
