ammo question
hello guys, hope this is in the right section, but i have a quick question. the other day i bought two boxes of winchester 180gr silvertips form one store, and then the following day i bought two more boxes of the ammo from a different store and i noticed the the first two boxes i bought had the usual CPX3 rating, and then the other botwo boxes i bought they have a rating of CPX2, but the are the same bullet. my question is how can this be? was this just a factory mistake cause for the last 6 years i have been buying silver tips and they are always CPX3.
let me know what you think!!

RE: ammo question
I have encountered a similar problem with Federal Power Shok ammo, I shoot 180 Gr. bullets in my 300 Win Mag, sometimes It will have a white elk on the box sometimes a white deer, but it is the exact same bullet, I can't answer it, I guess it has to do with marketing, but I don't know for sure.

RE: ammo question
Yeah, the X2 is supposed to be targeted to thin skinned animals and the X3 is for thicker skinned animals. I would imagine that the Federal ammos is the same way. It could be that the ammo is both 180 grain, but the bullet is jacketed different of just uses a different bullet alltogether. The X3 is supposed to stay together longer, at least that is the way that I understand it.

RE: ammo question
oh well, im sure the bullets will work just fine for my uses, i am done hunting moose now, so now i am focused on deer so i will use the CPX2 rated bullets. then i will use the remaining CPX2 bullets for target shooting cause i usually like to use the CPX3 rating silvertips for all my hunting.
