You did fine. My buddy just bought the 9317 with a very cheap scope for 239. The sweet 17 is a bit more expensive.
You have alot of gun for the money

Yes of course bad products make it past quality inspections at times. But barrels misaligned so badly that you can see it with the naked eye? That's not a fluke, that's a product of low standards.

So why didn't the shop or you find it before purchasing the rifle? And how could you not notice it when boresighting the rifle or mounting the scope? If it was that far off it should have been very obvious. You should have never fired it that way, just put it back in the box and returned it for a different one.

I work in a factory, when you have that many people making that much product things get overlooked. You hate to see it, but it happens. Don't doubt for a minute that the same thing doesn't happen with ruger, remington, winchester, marlin and browning.

I was a little harsh in my last post, I apologize for that, it was late and maybe I had too much cafeine. I only drink it on weekends. Doesn't change the way I feel though. I have seen poor quality from every gun maker in my life, however they all make fine products for the most part. You want crap pick up a Siaga AK variant. That will put things into perspective for you.

Or if you want you could spend twice the money and get a ruger that is bigger and looks nicer, may not shoot well, but heck it costs more and looks nice right? Truth is the savage and marlin guns are the best bang for the buck in out of the box accuracy for the 17 rimfires. Which is why they sell like crazy.

Paul, I didn't notice it until I realized there was a problem. Once I took the scope off, I could see it. The other thing that struck me was the ripples down the barrel from the belt sander. They're just silly rifles and I knew better. Everything Savage has made since the great Model 99 has been garbage.

None of the ones I have had have any of those problems, so I don't know what to say.

Call them silly if you want, but they sure do sell well.
