Youngun, you should pick up a reloading manual and just turn thru the pages, as most manuals will go into reasonable detail about different cartdirge names and how they came about,eg. 257Roberts was designed by a Ned Roberts I think. The 30-06 Springfield was named for the rifle it was first chambered in the 03 Springfield. The 270 Winchester was first commercially loaded and chambered by Winchester. As you can see we have a very unusual cartrige nameing system if you can call it a system at all. There are many more knoledgeable shooters on this forum than me, and if you phraise your questions in a courtious manner you will get much useful information.

Thanks Hairtrigger. I've built several over the years and they're pretty much all I hunt with now. I'll use some of my rifles on occasion.

S & W Stealth Hunter, it is a pure shooter. Also in reference to the above comment about the 30-06. I believe the original designation was the 30-03(established in 1903 in the 03A3), And then the cartridge was modified in 1906. Tom.

after owning, shooting and fondling just about every currently commercially available handgun out there... i settled on my S&W 686 +... fits my hands, is a pleasure to shoot and big enough for whatever i hunt...

Yep, that is one of my favs. I have one in blued. As 9mm goes I love my P89 and my neighbors CZ75. My carry is a wonderful little .45 (PT145) from Taurus.
