Default Anyone noticed the price drop on Federal Classic ammo?

Wal-Mart has it for 9.99 a box. I bought 5 boxes of the 130 gr power shok 270 ammo with the same lot #. Makes it nice because thats the load my 270 has always preferred. My 243 also likes the 100 gr classic ammo and it was the same price. This is good ammo...I cant figure out why the price drop but Im not complaining. First thing I checked was to see where its made and its still made in Anoka. The 7mag ammo was only 12.99. Seems like several places on the net have it for nearly that price as well so its not a sweetheart Wally deal. 30/30 was like 8.99 a box. As well as my guns like the stuff it sorta makes it hard to take time out to reload anything when you stay as busy as I do.

I picked up a box of 150gr .30-06 Federal Classic a month or so ago. Thought I'd try it out for the price. I did notice, however, that Federal has adjusted some of their pricing since they started selling the Fusion ammo. The Fusion ammo seems to have replaced the Federal Premium Vital Shock ammo at the low end of the pricing scale. Two years ago I bought .30-06 150gr Federal ammo with Sierra Game King bullets for about $15/box. Now the Fusion ammo is about $16/box and the same Federal ammo with SGK bullets is $22 or $23/box.

I'm going to take the advice of a column I read - once you find an ammo type that works well in your rifle, stick to it! No need to continually be spending money to try to shave another 1/64" off a nice grouping.

(Yikes, maybe I shouldn't have stated such heresy publicly. I might have marketing folks from the ammo companies showing up in black helicopters in the middle of night to "reeducate" me.)

I just spent a bunch of money on ammo yesterday heres what I bought.
3 boxes of 30-06 180 gr @ 16.99/box federl Power shok
3 boxes of 25-06 117 gr @ 17.99/box Federal Power shok
2 boxes of 270 win 130 gr@ 14.99/box Fed Power shok
and this is what I found funny
3 boxes of 300 win mag 180 gr @ 12.99/box Fed power shok
but also on the same list I got
2 boxes 7mm Rem Mag 160 gr Power shoks/15.99 box
2 boxs .338 win mag 225 gr Power shok/22.99 box
I don't know if you guys can tell but I like Federal ammo and love the Power Shok line.Should have a enough for the opening day of Big game(I hope)

Jack I bought all the 130 gr 270 stuff they had. I cant believe the prices of it. I love the power-shoks as well. That and the core lokt always group better than most anything with a few handloads included out of my goto guns. I know ya prob hate wal mart as do I..but for prices like that I will probably buy them out of 7mag,243, and 30-06 as well. I wish they made 140 7-08 in the power shoks..but oh well..lol. Cant have everything. Happy shooting..hehehehe..I know I have already burned a box of it up..lol.

XD9 thats the way I am..the 270 was broke in on them and shoots under an inch unless Im hung over anytime I wanna shoot with thm. I was thinking they had to adjust the price on them with the introduction of the Fuzion to make them the entry level ammo. Best entry level stuff I've seen
