Default Rem 700 - Aluminum floorplate & trigger guard?

I just picked up a new Rem 700 Mtn rifle. First off, what a great handling gun. I think Big Green really got the look and feel right on this one. That said, I have some concerns about the mag floorplate and trigger guard. It looks like they're manufactured from aluminum (or even plastic...), but it's definitely not steel.

Does anyone know what these parts are made of? And is Remington doing this with all new 700s, or just the Mountain models? I realize that replacing steel with aluminum may be a great way to lighten the load, but I'd sure like the know if that's what is truly going on here. Truth be told, I wanted a light rifle and I don't really have a problem with certain parts being made from aluminum...just so long as it's not plastic.

New rifles? Bought in the last couple of years? I can say with out a doubt that I, my father, or my friend have bought in the neighborhood of 10 rem 700's in the last 2 years and they all have "plastic" trigger guards/floorplates. If its not plastic its a damn fine replica of plastic. peace

I have done some asking around on a couple of other forums and so far everyone that has responded, posts that their 700s all have aluminum trigger guard assemblies.Several of these rifles were purchased very recently.

I'm with stubble on this one, all of my 700's are aluminum and the two 700's i looked at last weekwere aluminum too...

Maybe they are NOS (new old stock), but they didn't look like it??

All mine are steel. But the only ones I kept were about 25 years old. New ones I have seen are plastic.

Got a new 700 BDL SS and the floorplate is aluminum. All of the ones I have looked at have also had aluminum plates but maybe my dealer has old stock. Take care.
