RE: Ruger M77 Mark2
i might open a hornets nest, but ruger's recent reputation for accuracy is patchy. some shoot brilliantly well, others seem to give trouble. although i have heard that their barrel processes have been revised. the only other gripe i would have is the trigger. an awful lot of owners end up fitting aftermarket timmney triggers.
having said all that, i'm considering buying one in 6mm rem, or 257 roberts. largely because they are one of the few to offer these calibres in a sporter.

I have a ruger M77 MKII in a 7mm mag. and like it alot, now that I have had a trigger job done to it, and had it bedded. I got the gun for a good price. and shot it for the first time and found that the trigger was not anywhere close to acceptable for my liking. The trigger job was defenitly a plus on mine, proving that it can put 3 shots wellunder a 1" dot at 100 yards. I didnt like the way the stock fit at the forend and moved around when handeling so I had it bedded.

I have a Mark II in 300 WM. I had the trigger replaced, I floated the barrel and I recently had it bedded. It can shoot definetly under an inch at 100 yds but as the barrel heats up it moves around. If I had it to do over again I would have purchased a rifle that already has all the bells and whistles, like a Kimber or Sako.

I have the MKII in a .220 swift and it is a great rifle. I did have the trigger worked on for 35.00 . I wont say I can do it all the time but 85% of the time I can clover leaf it at 200 yards. 100 yards for sure. That is with reloads.

i have two rugers, a mark II .270, and one of the older m77's in 7x57 mauser. the .270 has an awful trigger, but it is a very consistent performer. when i take it to the range, the first three shots always cluster into about an inch at 100 yds. on the other hand, i have had no success with the 7x57. it shoots odd and inconsistent groups that resemble shotgun patterns. im basically to the point where i'm going to get it rebarreled. i will probably end up getting replacement triggers for both rifles
