Remington 700ADL w/ Scope for $449
I'm a bowhunter that's looking for something that can shoot accurately a little farther out then 30 yards. hehe. There's a cabelas in my back yard and they have that combo (with a scope that they sell for $80) priced at $449. My question is, is it a good deal? They also have a deal going now where if you spend $500 you get a $150 gift card.
I've heard stories of wal-mart having that gun in the two hundreds, which almost sounds unbelievable. I checked my local wally world, no go.
Any thoughts?
Oh, i should mention that my dad will never speak to me again if i buy something other then remington. I need him to speak to me because I plan on inheriting all his guns. wait, i didn't say that!

I don't really like the ADL. It's a little cheaper made and doesnt have a drop plate. You have to cycle the bullets out 1 by 1. I would find a BDL in excellent condition for the same price. Theyre out there everywhere.

Not having a drop plate would be a pain. I'm not even sure why i'm considering buying the gun. I have a marlin 3030 that i've had since i was 16 and i've never even fired a shot at a deer with it. i need to break that thing in at some point. it dates back to the late 60's and is in GREAT condition. Plus, the last time I went rifle hunting was the year I got the marlin (16 years ago). I usually go slug and archery hunting only. i have the most awesome slug stand ever, so it's tough to go rifle hunting. but, every hunter needs a good rifle right?
can you all tell i'm torn about this decision? i realize the drop plate is a pain, but i wouldn't use the gun as much as you all probably think. And the thought of cycling the rounds out doesn't really bother me (remember, I normally slug hunt). So basically, i'm looking for a remington rifle that isn't too spendy (hard to justify buying a $800 gun when i'm not sure if i'll use it this year, or next year...). Plus, I want something new. I want to hand it down to my son and handing down a rifle i bought new just seems a little more meaningfull. i don't know!!!!
with that said, is it a decent deal? or should i spend the $450 and see a good shrink?

I'd say that that is not a "deal", but more like normal retail price. Around here, you can pick up a new ADL (if you can still find one in stock) for $308, with $80 scope and mounts, you really should come in at less than $450. Last year, I got a new ADL .243 for $249, with a $48 hard case thrown into the deal. I paid retail for a 3-9 scope and mounts and wound up right at $400. A buddy got the same deal on his .270, found some mounts in the bargain bin for $4.50, and a Leupold VXII scope for $60 at a pawn shop that he sent back to Leupold and got a free refurbishment. Heck of a rifle set-up for $320.
Lack of a drop plate is not THAT big of a deal. My .243 is a tack driver that'll put 3 shots into a dime at 100 yards, even with my crappy shooting skills, and has put down two 8-points with two shots.

I have an ADL @ Walmart in my area with a scope for 325$. You can buy a BDL on Gunbroker for 400$ - bought one for my # 2 boy in April - brand new - Reingtion softcase and stock bullet holder included. Chambered in 30'06. 400$ included shipping andFBI tax from the FFL transfer. My gun dealer even the trigger for me during the transfer. They come set too hard and they are tricky (tricker than Model 70 anyhow) to set.

I have to agree with cma3366. I have several ADL's as well as several BDL's and I really do prefer the ADL's. I really have to say that I think my ADL's shoot better, maybe it's just the calibers they're in. I have a sweet ADL in .243 that I've restocked with a great synthetic stock and had all the steel bead blasted and blued. Probably the best rifle I own. No floorplate, no problem. And I'd probably buy the one you're looking at. It sounds like an OK deal to me.

Wal Mart can compete with that. However, I would rather give my money to someone else. Wal Mart makes it money from me, I just rather help out some other busniesses if they can compete.

i think it's a good deal......if the scope go's bad after a couple seasons ya just getta better one.
i prefer the ADL fer a huntin rifle
i don't like stuff that makes noise er could mal-function. i put 4 rounds in the drop-in magazine, and close the bolt on a emty chamber. when im ready ta hunt i chamber a round. at day's end i open the bolt, remove the chambered round, and press it in the mag closing the bolt on a emty chamber.
simple, easy, safe, and quiet. no extra moving parts ta fumble with.
and if 4 rounds ain't enough, shame on me.
