Odd shotgun slug
I was looking around at some different shotgun slugs the other day, and ran across an oddity. It is from Nitro Company Ammunition. They claim to have a slug, for "smooth bore barrels only", that gives 4" groups and 4" of drop at 200 yards! Here are the the balistics they give.
10ga 3 1/2" 1oz 1700fps
12ga 3 1/2"1oz 1650fps
12ga3"1oz1600fps
12ga 2 3/4" 1oz 1570fps
So, to get a 4" drop at 200 yards, it needs to be sighted in roughly at 175 yards? Does this even seem feasable? And 4" groups from a smooth bore? Have any comments or thoughts?
Here is a link to their website. They don't even have any pics of the slugs on their site.

RE: Odd shotgun slug
I find it hard to believe. I'd be ecstatic if I was getting that kind of group and drop at 100 yards. Then again, for the price they are charging I'd hope they dress out the deer and freezer wrap it for you. That's an expensive range trip to sight in at a minimum of $2.40 per shot(and up to $3/shot if you only get the 5 pack).

When I first read that info on their site, my BS meter started to peg. I emailed them to days ago about it, and wanted more balistic info. Surprise, surprise I haven't gotten a reply. For that kind of claim, and the money they want, I want more info. Like a pic, full balistic information like trajectory, velocity, and energy. I would also like to know under what conditions was that accuracy obtained. Are we talking about a regula production gun outside, or a test/pressure barrel indoors? And from my experience in the past, to be 4" low at 200 yards, you would have to be waaaaay high at 100.

RE: Odd shotgun slug
I find it VERY hard to beleive, espcially at those speeds. That is pretty average slug speed, actually it is pretty poor considering the size of the shells they are using. So any normal slug loading could easily shoot that distance whith that amount of drop if you zeroed it far enough away. The problem would be it would be 25 inches high at 50 yards.
I haven't seen too many smoothbores that shoot that accurate at 50 yards, let alone 200.

if they are anything like their turkey loads they are probably telling the truth. goto the turkey forum and ask "does anyone shoot nitro loads? how well do they perform?" see what happens. i dont know much about slugs...but the turkey loads are supposted to be amazing

Sorry to tell you. I have a scope mounted Mossberg pump 19.5'' smoothbore barrel using Winchester 1ozor Brenneki 1-1/8 oz12ga. At 50yds I can cut the same holes. I gease my slugs. It makes a big difference. (don't try in auto loader) Atone hundred yrds it drops 6''. At two hundred it drops 32''. I will prove the 50yrds groups. Of course! $$$$
