Remington 6.8mm SPC
I read an article in an Australian hunting mag. about this cartridge. Developed as a military round it is basically a .30 Remington case necked down to take a .270 bullet. Rem. loads a factory"hunting" cartridge for it with a 115 gr. Core-Lokt bullet at a published 2800 ft/sec. Designed for use in an automatic, it would be a handy little round in a semi-auto or a lever gun. I am not aware of any rifles chambered for it. Anyone know something about it?

You can of course get uppers for the ar-15 style lowers if you already have a 5.56 nato/ .223 version. Thompson Center has barrels for their Encore single shot rifle and pistol in it. I myself dont see it being adopted for military use although it would have more punch than the current .22 caliber round. Its probably going to be one of those experimental cartridges that just never makes it.

I went to the Remington site and see they chamber a M700 and a couple 7s in it. and load two types of 115 gr. load for it. Often how a cartridge dose in sales depends on how and when it is introduced.
With all the news about the end of the Win. 94 erra, Rem. would be smart to bring out a new lever gun in this "new" cartridge. Step into the lever 30/30 market with a lever 6.8mm SPC. A new name might be a good idea. A .270 cal brought out in 2006. No a 27/06 would not work.
What would yoou rename this round?

.280 rem / 7mm rem express confusion happen all over again with 2 designations and one caliber.
but if they did need a new name I think
.277 Remington would fit nicely.
