I don't use a jag. I just use larger patches with an aluminum cleaning rod and plastic tip. If this is not a good approach please let me know.

Aluminum rod is not the best choice for cleaning a barrel and especially the 2 or 3 pieces sets. The one piece brass or plastic coated rods are a better choice...
