long and short Action!!

RE: long and short Action!!
Short action-less weight, possibly stiffer receiver. Shorter bolt throw for faster cycling of action.
Long action- allows for seating bullets longer to closely match length of freebore for possible improvements in accuracy.

RE: long and short Action!!
The differance between the two is the short action is made for .308 length cartriges, has a stiffer bolt and receiver, and cycles faster, and the long action is made for the 30-06 length cartriges. The bolt throw depends on how many lugs your bolt has (2 or 3). I don't know how you would seat the bullet out farther just because you have a long action rifle, that depends on the throat length of the barrel. You can chamber a long action rifle for a short action cartrige as long as the bolt face is the same diameter as the rim on the cartrige that you are planning on using, but you can't do it the other way around.

With a short action you are limited on how far you can seat a bullet out by the shorter magazine if you intend to load the rounds more than one at a time.
