Well if my uncle is buying it I would get a Blaser R93 professional model in .375 H&H magnum for fast heavy hitting follow up shops. With the proper load this caliber will reach out and shoot flat to 300 yards. I would put a swarovski scope in at least a 3x9 power in a 30mm tube design. Of course the rifle would probably have to be ordered.

You have great taste in firearms, and I would onlychangeone thing. I would preferthe gun in300 WSM. The gun can be found everyday at Mad Dog Guns in Scottsdale, AZ.

RE: you're going moose hunting
I grew up hunting in BC and in grizz country. For years I just carried my BLR .308 loaded with 165gr partitions or similar premium type bullet. After seeing more and more grizzlies and now having more disposable income I have a M70 in .325WSM. Since I like to walk alot I like a lighter rifle so recoil can become a factor with some of the larger calibers. Hunting partners all carried 30/06's, 300wins or similar and we never had any problems dropping our moose, and we never really felt under-gunned.

RE: you're going moose hunting
so far no one has chosen anything under 30 caliber.....and no one has chosen a lighter round than the 30-06
Where's the 280 rem and 7MM Mag and 308 win crowd?

The good old 30.06 will work just fine. I used my Remington 700 Mountain Rifle in 30.06. My ammo was Federal 180 gr. Accubonds. Shot was 232 yds. , measured with a range finder.
