If shooting at deer, they won't know the difference between a .300 and a .308 up to 300 yards.

Scott, have you shot deer with that bullet at different velocities? I have it in my mind that x bullets work better at higher velocities, but I havent had the opportunity to compare the same bullets at different speeds. At least not over a wide range of velocities. I'm headed out right now to try to stick one in a deer. I will have a 185 xlc up the spout of my 338/06. MV is just over 2700. I am curious to see how that compares to the old 175 gr x. The original disign shot so good and killed deer better than any bullet/load I have ever used, but when they changed the ogive design I couldnt get groups under 3". Now that they have started to abandon the secant ogive design, I am getting good groups again. This load in my gun will stay in 1 1/4 all day with about 90% of the shots under an inch. I am happy. I have a buddy who is shooting this same bullet out of his 338 mag at 3100. So by the end of the season, we will have at least some information to compare. The results of how well a bullet kills are always too subjective and varied to make any positively conclusive findings, but its fun to speculate and talk about. I bet that load you are using will suck the life right out of a deer! Is that a 300 win mag? I have another friend who shoots that bullet out of his 300 H&H at 3200. He loves it.
