I have owned this Ruger M77 (25.06) for 24 years now.

Over the years it has taken numerous deer some of which were quite large. I have also shot a few bear and one small moose with it. Lots of groundhogs and a few coyotes have also tasted its lead.
For game from deer size & smaller it is an excellent choice.
For larger game you have to be very particular in the choice your shots. Not the best choice but will work if you keep the shots to a shorter range & place the bullet in the proper place.

Best Wishes

The .25-06 is a fine cartridge for Antelope, all Deer sizefamily and hogs. I know a hunter who has taken black bear with it.

Shooting 500+ yards requires quality optics,I have a 24x Leupold for that range and I lot of time working up the right load...
What load and bullet do you like the best in your gun?

I have a 25-06 Tikka T-3. I love this caliber. Flat shooting, mild recoil and hot death on deer sized game.

No good on large deer, tell that to the 31 1/2 inch wide,189 7/8 B&C mule deer thats hanging on my wall.He fell to one shot,115 gr nosler. He hit the ground all stiff legged like someone hit him with a 2x4.

I have killed sssssssooooooo many deer with the 25-06 it ain't funny, even got a elk or two with it(works but there are better tools).I'am a HUGE fan of the round.

One of my hunting buddies shoots a Ruger .26-06. It is about as deadly as it gets. I have had good experience with the .25-06 Ackley Improved. With a 110 Nosler Accubond, there isn't much a .270 can do that this rifle can't - and the hot .25 shoots flatter to boot.

I have been wanting a 25.06 for a little while. A 270 has entered the train of thought too. In comparison to a 243 in "recoil", what is the comparable differences?

All of them are very tolerable. Light recoil IMO..
