Default New carry gun.

With the big game getting tougher every year, I decided that maybe bad guys might be tougher too. Therefore today for our Aniversery, my wife picked me up a new Taurus Ultralite 44 Mag revolver. It weights just 28.3 oz and the grip is very comfotable. I picked up a box of Federal 44 Special 200 Gr. SWHP ammo to test it and that is the recommended defense load for the 44 Mag or 44 Special. I fired a few rounds through it on the way home and with those loads and those grips, its a ***** cat to shoot. Full power loads may be a little different story but it fits my hand like they custom made it for me. However I have very large hands.

The best defense gun is the one you never have to use... But if you do have to use it, make sure it's something you can handle and feel comfortable with. .44 Mag is more than enough for self defense. I have a Taurus Tracker revolver in .357 and I love it.

I have a few different guns that I carry. I carry a Ruger 45 auto when conditions are right to carry a gun that big in size. (winter) I also sometimes pack a 65 Taurus with 158 grain SWCHP's. I also have a couiple nines that I use from time to time. This one will be carried for camping and hiking and as a backup for hunting seasons. I plan to work up some midlevel cast bullet loads and test them for Penetration. Probably a 250-270 wide flat nose hard cast.

Before long I will own the new Total Titainium Taurus 357, 7 shot 2 inch barrel. The carry gun for all seasons

I have wanted the Ultra lite 44 Mag every since I saw the first Smith version. However after Taurus knocked 250-300 off the price of these, I thought the time had come. They had the Smith as well but 719 for the Smith and 479 for the Taurus made the difference. The Taurus grip fits me better and is larger by far than The Smith. It has the double cyl lock and the Raging Bull grip.

Sounds like a good combo James. I am partial to the 44 spc, and this one won't pull your belt down much!

She is a keeper for sure. This will be 38 years this month. Now she can buy her horse.

This one will shoot mostly 44 Specials. However I will work up a cast load at about 1100 fps for big game. The right cast bullet at that velocity will Penetrate like gang busters. Will also create a good wound channel.

James, I would be interested in the bullet you settle on for big game. Don't spare the details!
