Rifle fit for larger guys?
So with all the different ideas that are rolling around in my head about the next gun purchase I've not considered which ones (makers) may fit me better. 6"2' about 230lbs and 20 years old....so I'm thinkin' what fits and produces less 'felt' recoil for some guys may not for us larger guys. I know this is true in shotguns (where fit is given a little more attention) and so there's no reason it shouldn't apply to rifles.
So since I've handles so few rifles (actually all have been 700s or levers) what do some of the bigger guys here find comfortable?
I'm left handed so, if I go the bolt route, I know I'm gonna have to do some searching.

Vapo, sorry buddy but I'm confused. Are you saying that fit is less critical for the smaller guys...and that bigger guys are just gonna get beat up a little morse no matter what? What I meant to ask in the post was whether or not any of the bigger guys here have found a certain rifle (Rem, wins, savage...marlin/winch) that seems to fit them better. LOP is pretty standard from one manufacturer to the next but they rarely list the drop at comb or heel. I do know that in shotguns I like ALOT of drop at heel. (I'm long necked and usually end up with the top half, or more, of the stock off my shoulder).

My Rem 700 fit pretty well, but I really like the way my Encore muzzleloader comes up. If I could duplicate that stock on a bolt action, I would probably try one. I usually find that I have to go to at least a medium block to get the scope high enough so that I an not looking over the top of it.

It's shown that lighter weight folks bend at the hips and knees better than heavier folks whose inertia just plain absorb recoil. It's just a matter of trying stuff until it fits well.
As others have said Remington's fit me well.....they're fine styled and dimensionally excellent guns......but this is true of many guns.
Just go to used shops, gun shows, and other places where you can pick up guns and after a while some will just glare at you.....some will be obvious loosers.....some you'll love and that's time to break out the checkbook.

I am 6'3 and 250lb.I have two diffrent Browing a-bolts and they both fit well. The distance between the recoil pad and the trigger is 1/2 of an inch short. If you find it a problem go to a gunsmith and have him put a recoil pad spacer in.Most of the time it will be about $50.00.

I'm 6' 3'' 210# and I have shot a lot and I own a lot and they all shoot great for me. That is the beauty of being bigger and having a longer length of pull IMO is that you can shoot anything.

Vapo is 100% right. Large folks get hammered harder as a rule than smaller lighter people. Light peole seem to roll with the punch better than big more stanionary people. Rifle fit really has nothing to do with the size of the shooter, other than real small folks and kide may be better suited to shorter stocks. The 700 Remington fits me the best recoil wise and I am a big guy. However that fit may be different for the next guy regardless of size. Savage rifles (although I am fond of them), Kick the hell out me where the Remington in the same calber is nowhere near as bad.

Soilarch,
I believe stock fit is critical. Some brands of rifles are better for reducingfelt recoil than others. Corrections can be made to make them better. I've heard bad things about Rugers having unnecessary recoil(only one I ever had was in 220 Swift, so no help there). It would best if you could shoot some different rifles at the range and keep notes (make, model, weight, cartridge, bullet weight, stock shape, and RESULT).
