They are pretty expensive but I put a 2X Aimpoint 2 MOA red dot scope on one of my 22s.Well worth it.I also have a 4X leupold on another one, also a great scope.I recently purchased an inexpensive Barska 4X illuminated reticle scope.I don't know how durable it is yet,but I like the size and configuration of the crosshairs and it is parallax free at 50 yrds.

There are a lot of good reasonably priced 22 scopes out there. Simmons, Burris, Leupold. You can get a lot of models for <$150.
If you want to go cheaper, head to Walmart and look around there. One caution, I got a BSA in Walmart for the same reason as you. Scope is real clear, even at the range, but in the woods squirrel hunting, I have a hard time picking the little critters up. The brightness just isn't there.
A cheap high power scope will work too but the paralax on these are set at around 100 yds vs the rimfire scopes which are set about 50 yds.
Good luck.

Bushnell fixed 4X. Will run you $40. Have one on all 3 of my .22s and am very pleased.
