Scope mounting
Hi all,
After seeing so many posts about .243's, I couldn't take it any more and went out and bought a Model 7 in .243. This is my first Remington rifle and it came with adjustable metal sights which sit pretty high up off of the barrel. I'm considering installing Leupold bases and rings and had a question. Do I have to remove the back sight to install a scope (thinking 38-42 mm objective). If I used medium rings would this sit above the steel sight? Any experiences? Also, I'm thinking a fixed 4X or 6X, with shooting at no more than 250 yards. Which of these powers do you all prefer.
Thanks,
KEJ

You should buy it dinner first.

LOL
And get some protection also I think.
I take off the open sights on all my rifles with scopes. I just cant stand how they look with those branch grabbers on there.
That model 7 should be kept as light as possible. If you used raisedrings forthe scopethan its understandable otherwise theres no real reason to have them on there unless you think you might drop gun or break scope in woods and would take off the rings and bases and use opens sights.
