Well, Jed, if you asked just about anybody what the top five deer cartridges of all time are, I'm sure the .270 WCF and the 7mm/08 Rem are both going to be on the list. They would be in my top three. You can't go wrong with either.
As for the rifle, get the Ruger. I've had plenty of experience with them and I've never had a problem. I have a friend who bought a Savage rifle and even though it was accurate, he hated the thing and got rid of it. Never had a good "feel" to it, he said. Kind of cheaply made.

Id go with the ruger i do own a m77 & also a savage like them both shoot them left handed/ but they are right handed rifles, but a new ruger/ in 270 win .
