Since you already got the 30-06 I wouldn't get another 30 caliber anything. It isn't going to do anything your 30-06 won't do.

Personally I would step down in bore diameter to something like a .243 or step up to a .338 Win mag.

Space them out a little bit.

I have a 30-06 and hunt elk with it. I wouldnt bother with anything bigger unless you are going to go after brown or grizzly bear.

I would get a 30/06 over a 300WSM any day I just don’t like the whole WSM range and the 30/06 will always have 100 years on the 300WSM and that’s got to show it’s done something right.

Not to be picky but the 30:06 was a 30cal bullet invented in 1906 not 1903. Put the two together and you get a 30:06

Not to be picky but you need to back to school there schoolboy.

The 30-06 started life as the 30-01 in 1901 This case had a thicker than normal rim and fired 220 grain round nose bullets.

It evolved into the 30-03 in 1903and was identicle to the 30-01 with the exception of the thinner rim that we have today on the 30-06. It still fired the same 220 grain round nose bullet.

It then, in 1906, evolved into the 30-06 that we have today. This case design was identicle to the 30-03 design except that the case mouth was shortened by .1 inches in order to properly hold the more stream lined spitzer type bullets. These bullets had less bearing surface (flat area) and if the case had not been shortened there would have been a gap between the case mouth and the ogive (curved area) of the bullet.

Well it seems that everyone on this thread likes th 06 compared to the 300. Well I have both. I hunted with a 30-06 for years and took elk and Mt. Lions with it. But last year I won a Browning Stalker chambered in 300 WSM. Wow, what a rifle. It weighs 1 1/2 lbs lighter than my 30-06 and for some reason I dont flinch when I shoot it. I tend to flinch with my 06. The 06 tends to be much louder. I like the fact that I can fit 5 to 6 grains of powder more in a 300 case. That means I can shoot a bigger bullet faster. It is not quite as accurate as my 06 but still very accurate. I would say its a toss up. Both will kill any thing in this country.

Chalk up another vote for the '06 here. With today's excellent bullets it'll get the job done.
