It's not really either one. It is too long to fit in most short action magazines but not the length of a 30-06 either.

the last i knew , majority of our standard production rifles were only offered in three action sizes , short , long , and magnum. there aren't to many medium length actions so for most rifles currently made , the 6mm remington would be in a long action length
