The 45-70 will eat the others for lunch, factory 300 grainers are easy on your shoulder. Then you can reload much heavier bullets much hotter if need be. You can buy ammo thru Cabela's ( buffalo bore, garret ect.) and kill anything on this planet at least land dwelling animals that is. The other choices are not as versital. To me its a no brainer, 45-70 all the way!

I love my 45/70s I have two ,but the one I like to shoot is a single shot NEF 32in barrel. But the 1895 is awsome too. You really can make this round to fit just about any animal on this planet. There where thousands of buffalo killed with ammo alot less potent then what we have. I cant say there is a better round for what you say you need it for. 100 yards it will bea very dead moose, elk, & deer So I guess you know I would pick the 45/70

I bought a .444 way back in 74 and it has killed several moose and tons of deer. I love it. If you reload all three caliburs can be loaded to the same power. If you get a deal on a 45-70 I would jump at it. The .450 marlin I would hesitate as its too new, and a unique cartridge. In ten years you might have a hard time finding brass. The .444 and the 45-70 have been around long enough so no worries there.

If you're going to reload your own ammo I'd say take your pick, although the 444 doesn't have the choice of bullet weights that the 45 cal's do. If it is a marlin you're looking at does it have micro groove rifleing or the ballard type. You know marlin still uses the micro groove in the .44 mag, and I'm not sure about the 444. I do know that micro grove wont stabilize cast bullets, so dont count on them to make heavy hitters out of the 444 unless you know it doesn't have micro grove. The 265 gr is the heaviest jacketed bullet I'm aware of in .429 dia, and that don't stack up well beside a 405 gr..458!
