.350 Rem mag 673 guide gun
Anyone have experience with this round and/or gun? I've seen a few Rugers SS composite stocks as well. I briefly looked at some ballistic charts and, to me, it looks very similar to the .35 Whelen, am I correct in that assumption? Which brings up my next question, is there any distinct advantage for one over the other? I assume both require re-loading to really enjoy the round as factory ammo seems quite limited. Thanks in advance.

I have the 350 Rem. Mag in my T/C Encore. I’ve never did a comparison between the 350 and the 35 Whelen so I can’t comment on the difference and I’ve never really looked at the 673 guide rifle. You will definitely have an advantage in reloading because the availability of bullets is limited, well around here any ways. The 350 is not a long distance cartridge but it does work well at close range with lots of hitting power. The 350 is actually one of the first short mags for a short action rifle. I enjoy shooting my 350 Rem. mag and I’m still working on some loads for accuracy.

Just looking in the Sierra manual where they give a good velocity gain to the 35 Whelen over the 350 Mag. However their test rifle for the 350 Mag has a 18 1/2 inch barrel where the Whelen is tested with a 26 inch barrel. Most data shows them neck to neck. I can see no advatage of one over the other. Ammo would be harder to find for either of these rifles outside of a big full service sporting goods store so it would be about a toss-up. Both rifles are great big game stoppers within their effective range. I guess as a close range bear gun I would opt for the 35 Whelen in the Remington Pump rifle. I have owned both calibers in the past but really didn't have enough need for what they provide so I moved on. I do like the feel and heft of the Remington bolt gun but have not fired on. YET

I have a .350 rem mag in custom shop model 7 KS. It knocks the lights out of everything you shoot with it. I used it a couple of weeks ago to put a 225lb buck straight into the ground. It is basically the same as a Whelen but can be chambered in a short action. At 300 yds and under it shoots as flat as most other rounds but kills much quicker, most people have never shot at game past 300 yds. I do not like the new Guide gun, and would look for another rifle personally.
