I like Weatherby rifles alot but in an ultralight the Kimber Montana is in the same price range (approx $1,000.00) and is hard to beat.
The cartridges that best match your choices are the 260 or 7mm/08 in the 5.3 pound rifle or the 270 WSM in the 6.3 pound rifle. This gun comes in two actions one built specifically for the the 308 and one for the WSM cases.
I have recently seen two different rifles in 300 WSM at the range shooting 1/2 to 3/4 groups. I fired a freinds 300 WSM and the recoil is killer. The 270 WSM will perform approx the same as the 270 Weatherby but the lighter short action is better suited foran ultralight gun. Also this has got to be the most attractive gun going and it is made in the US. If you take a look you will be hooked.
