RE: New .460 S+W Magnum for deer.
Hi all, Yes I am a newbee to this room. I was checking out reloading info. for my new S&W 460 mag. And I came across this Forum. So I had to reply.I got the 460 for $950.00, the Waren rings for $34.95, the Waren mount for $89.95 , the Leupold 2.5 x 8 for $ 450.00 + tax on all.Am I happy with it ? Very much so. I got this just two weeks before deer season here. I took a 8 point buck ,on theRUN away from me, after he seen me bringing up the gun on him at about 20 yards away at the time. I took the shot at 45 yards at the back of his neck hitting him in the spine. He was dead before hitting the ground. He never moved and we recoverd the 200 gr Barns bullet at the base of the neck. Would I have taken the shot if he was running right to left or the other way? NO But all I had to due was bring the gun straight up on him and he was right there. I hadthe scopon 4 power.
And yes you do need hearing protection for this hand cannon. As far as recoil, I shoot the T/C in 44 mag,12 inch barrel, with a 300 gr (hunting hand load) and its not that much diffrent on the recoil. But the Shock Waveis ! Any ? E-Mail Me Thanks PS. I know some don't like big bor hand guns, But that's what I have used for deer hunting the past 10 years . And no I didn't use spell check oops Behave all !

I'm quite surprised that you recovered a Barnes bullet shot into the neck of a deer. Even the 6MM Barnes X bullets will almost penetrate a deer end for end. Have a photo of the bullet?
