I have a Burris Signature 1.75-5x on my 45 70 which has treated me well so far. It seemed bright with the eye relief I wanted for the Buffalo Bore loads.
I also think the Leupy VariX III 2.5-8 is a good scope if you have the cash and can use the magnification. The fixed power 2x scopes don't seem to offer much eye relief, but that would not be a big deal if you stick to factory loads other than Garrett or Buffalo Bore. Factory loads are cupcakes.

Good to see that you realize you don't need a high powered scope on that Guide Gun. I had an original Redfield 1.75 x 5 Wide View on my Guide Gun. I had the scope for many years and it was perfect for hunting in the thick Adirondack woods.Unfortunately, last season while I was dragging a deer my buddy was carrying my gun and he slipped and his gun came down hard on my Redfield and it cracked the lens. So off I went to the local Wal-Mart and picked up a Leopold Rifleman 2 x 7 for around $190 total. I load my own ammo and I push the envelope a little and I have yet to have a problem with the Rifleman. The Rifleman isn't the top of the line scope that Leopold makes, but it's nice and bright and clear all the way out to the edges.
I considered a lower straight powered scope, but my eyesight isn't what it used to be so I like having the ability to turn the power up if I need to.Good luck.

I have used a 2x7 Leupold Rifleman on one of mine. You sure don't need to go with a several hundred dollar scope. A lot of the cheaper scopes will work fine if yiou stay with the fixed power model. I don't like cheap variables however.

Check out the following scopes:
Weaver 1-3x 20mm
Leupold VXII, 1-4x 20mm
Leupold VXIII, 1-1/2-5x 20mm
My pick would be the Leupold 1-4x. I've had one now for near 25years, and no problems. It's currently mounted on a Ruger carbine in 358Win.
A good source is SWFA or MidwayUSA.
