Locals use the 223 or 22 250. But if long distance and wind are a concern, you could go to the 243, 6 mm Rem or 25 06.

The .223 is tough to beat for almost any varmint hunting situation. That would be my choice for all "varmints". A good 55 grain hollowpoint will destroy yotes on contact.

.22-250 Ackley Improved. It will give you a little more zip than the .220 Swift, without all the case life problems associated with loading that caliber up to its full potential.Never have to trim cases with the Improved.

If you don't reload, its a toss up between the .22-250 Remington and the 220 Swift.

PS - for a rifle, Remington 700 VS.

I personally shoot a .223 and shoot out to 300yrds. I have a lot of guys bash me for using a 223 and they all say the 22-250 is so better but i change there minds when i kill them at 300 yrds and they dont or at the range when i shoot better groups at 300 yrds then they do at 200 so imo the 223 is better and cheaper to shoot with all the surplus ammo out there.

220 Swift, then a .17Rem for close in stuff (200 yards)....the >.17 rem does the least pelt damage. Regards, Rick.

I would take a look at the Savage rifles too. They have some of the most accurate out of the box rifles around, and the price is an added bonus!
