Default 270 and 300 WSM's

Do you see these calibers sticking around or will they fade out?

I think they will stay around. I wouldn't bet on the 7MMSM though. At least where I live , they are not selling. I am a bit suprised that the 300 WSM has done as well as it has just because its ina crowd of simular cartridges. The 300 Win Mag is well established as is the Weatherby model and the 300RUM Even the 308 and 30-06 are in the same class pretty much. OH well, if it sells guns, thats a good thing. I can't see much gain of the 270 WSM over the 270 Win but there again Its good for the industry.

Actually the 270 WSM is an improvement over the 270 by about 200 fps. It's only about 150-200 fps behind the 270 WM as opposed to almost 400-500 fps with the 270. Is it a niche cartridge maybe, but they'll be around for a long while, not like the SAUM's.

Yep, the WSM's aren't going to go anywhere. Even the 7mm IMO.

Now the SAUMs are definetly not going to make it too much longer. Only room for one family of "short magnums" and Remington was way late releasing theirs.

I also don't know about these WSSM's.I can't see them lasting all that long.

I agree, the WSM's are here to stay. SAUM's, WSSM's and Ultra Mags will probably all die off before the WSM's IMO. They are marketed well, but they also make sense. My cousin works for Browning and reminds me all the time they are not hype, they are for real. Things that are for real tend to stick around, especially when marketed correctly and honestly.

Some of the browning and winchester adds certainly were not totally honest. They actually had the 7mmwsm and 300wsm providing more velocity with the same bulletsthan the 7mmremmag and 300winmag.They used 24" barrel lengths for all cartridges in thecomparison.Coincidently both the model 70 and A-bolt both have 26" barrels in both the 7mmremmag and 300winmag.In the 7mmwsm and 300wsm the model 70 has a 24" barrel and the a-bolt a 23" barrel. The result is that both the model 70 and a-bolt in7mmremmag and 300winmag actually deliver more velocity than posted in the comparison, and the a-bolt in the 7mmwsm and 300wsm actuall deliver less velocity than posted in the comparison. If they used the velocitiesactually produced by their own rifles, the results of the comparison would be quite different as the wsm's would actually produce less velocity than the standard mags.Do you call that honest advertising?

My point it that the 270 and 270 WSM are in the same class for the animals one would hunt. You would nevernotice 200 fps difference on game animals. Anything to big to hunt with the 270 Win, is also to big to hunt with the 270 WSM. I think the 270 and 300 WSM will hang around and both are fine weapons.
