Default Ruger 77 trade for Remington 700???????

I'm thinking seriously about tradeing my Ruger 77, 25-06 for a Remington 700, 30-06, both of which are used but in good condition. How reliable and dependable is this Remington model 700, and do you think this is a good swap? Thanks guys, Bobby

Where I live rugers are out of favour not only with shooters, but with gunsmiths...I have heard they are great rifle's, so I really have no personal opinion on ruger. As far as 700 BDL, I have 2 and they both are great guns, in fact one is the most accurate rifle I own. Why are you considering a trade? More Power & bullet choice? Don't like the ruger?

All thing being equal in condition, features, etc...I would say it would be fair. Here 700 BDL's cost more new and used, but that may not be the case their!

It is really a case of what you like .I have both ruger 77 and Remington 700 .They both shoot fine ,no problems and cost about the same money . If I was planning to hunt deer I would stay with the 25-06 ,but if I planned to go to elk hunting it would be a 30-06 .

Both are very good rifles. If you only will have one, go with the 30-06. You can hunt anything in Narth America with that 30-06.

121553,AKA Bobby,
About the only difference between the two is the Ruger has controlled feed and the Rem. is push feed. For hunting I prefer the Ruger. As for calibers the 30 would be more vesitile, but the 25 is no slouch.

Really a matter of personal preference. I prefer the Ruger.

I also say it's a matter of preference, the 06 will let you hunt anything on the continent, while the 25-06 lets you use the same gun for critters and then switches to deer with a change in load and rezero the scope. Then too you can find 06 ammo just about anywhere, not so easy with the 25-06.

The Remington 700 and Ruger M-77 are both well made rifles. If the Remington is a newer model I would think twice before considering a trade for the Remington. Remington's quality has slipped over the last several years.I have both a Remington 700(had several over the years) and a few Ruger M-77's.I prefer the Ruger's.When I first bought my current Rem 700 the bolt wouldn't stay cocked. After working the bolt many times it started to function correctly.I figure there was a burr or something causing the malfunction. It's your choice what you decide, but if it were my decision I'd keep the Ruger M- 77......Ruger Redhawk

Thanks for the repleies guys and all well taken but as said, it is a matter of personal preverance. Skeeter the Ruger 25-06 is a fine gun and has done me well back east but kinda lacks the ass out here in nw Montana as I like stalking the mountain sides for elk and white-tail. The ruger 77 is a well built firearm, but in being well built, its so damn heavey for stalking purposes, as opposed to the Remington 700. For antelope over in eastern Montana it would be great, but I gotta have a gun that can be versatile for elk and mulies and with the 700 I can do that. Like you say James if you gotta carry one, carry the 30-06. REDHAWK, I'm not too sure how old this 700 is but it has been well taken care of (better then mine really.) I bore chequed it and the action and all seems good and solid. This guy knows that if I can't hold a consisted group that I BE BACK. But I believe I am goin to make the trade. You guys helped me out a lot, thanks, Bobby

I've got the perfect answer. Keep the Ruger and buy the Remington from him. You &quot;need&quot; more than one rifle. In fact you &quot;need&quot; lots of rifles.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
