30-06 Recoil
I keep reading posts and hearing about 30-06 recoil and how it is too much for some people. I don't mean to put anyone down, but when I shot the caliber I didn't notice it at all. The 30-06's I shot were the M1 Garand, and the 1917 Enfield off a bench. Do those two rifles have anything to do with it? Is my soon to be Weatherby Vanguard in .06 gonna kick more? Just puzzled.

Well the Garand will kick less than a bolt rifle will because it is gas operated. And some bolt rifles kick more than others, depending on weight. Obviously the lighter the rifle, the more felt recoil. I never really thought the recoil of an '06 was uncomfortable, but could see why some people couldn't handle it. The biggest thing is practice, you get used to it. Good luck on the Weatherby.

definately the m-1 and maybe the 1917 would weigh more than the vanguard. but it still shouldn't be too outragious depending on what you're shooting in it, how you're holding the gun, and whether it has a pad or not. also, some people have less of a problem with recoil than others or they may have gotten used to the recoil of the 06.

RE: 30-06 Recoil
I hunt with at Savage 116 that weights 7 1/3 lbs with the scope and rings and this is at my limit for recoil. I think an 06 should weight 7 1/2 lbs min.to be comfortable to shoot. The stock design can help by letting the muzzle jump instead of directing the energy into the shooter.

The weight and the gas operating system of the M-1 does reduce recoil. One thing that will also make a difference in recoil is the weight of the bullet. A 150 gr. will have less recoil the a 220 gr. bullet.
