Well, today I went out and bought a new Browning A-Bolt II Stainless Stalker in .270WSM with the Nikon Monarch Scope. Thanks for all the comments/suggestions!

Check out the savage weather warrior series. I have a 116fss in a .300 win mag and it is as good a rifle as it gets for hunting. With alittle work at the range it can be your go to rifle. Good luck and at least check them out.

I went out and shot a few boxes of ammo to zero the scope and what not. On the stand I was able to shoot 1 inch groups at 100yds, but I fear my offhand skills are sorely lacking, need to buy more ammo and get in some good practice!

hey reb, the last time we cleaned out the boat and tackle boxes, we weighed the plastic worms, it was pointless to try and count[:-]

It's the best caliber I've shot thus far, granted the only other rifle caliber I've shot is a 8mm mauser, but the recoil was very moderate for a magnum round, and it flew on a very flat trajectory. When we went from 50yds to 100, the shots only moved up about half an inch on the target.

Actually, I was wondering on ammo, I am looking to hunt up in Minnesota, where I'm told most of your shooting is within 100yds and the brush can be thick, is the 150 grain better suited then the more standerd 130 grain?

Hope that helps!
