The 234 pounder that I shot was hit at about 35 yards. The Gameking penertrated BOTH front shoulders. The 175 pounder was shot at about 45 yards in a cedar swamp. He was facing me, slightly quartering. The 165 Gameking went through his chest and exited out behind the left shoulder. The 4 pointer I shot 2 years ago was quartering away at about 35 yards and the 165 Gameking broke his off shoulder.

Instead of worring about penetration why do you shoot them, get familar with your rifle, hit where you aim and kill some deer.

Quilly,

I just re-read my last post and found that the last paragraph came across rather harsh. I guess that is the nature of the emotionless internet.

My point is that there is no panacea of deer bullets. IMO, they all work as long as you hit the animal where you are supposed to. I've killed a ton of stuff with Core-lokts, never a problem. Stubblejumper killed a boatload of game with BTs and hasn't had a problem. I know people that use power points, partitions, failsafes, interlocks, and others without problems. I'll tell you what, none work well with a gut shot.

If you are getting 1.08 inch groups from Gamekings in your 30-06 then that is what you should use. I wish I could get them to shoot that well in my 308. I get 1.5 inch groups, which isn't bad on an average of 50 yard shots.

BTW, the 4 pointer I shot 2 years was 20 feet or so and not 35 yards. There was a fist sized exit hole.

i do shoot them and i am actually good with my browning out of all mt little toys in my safe. i shoot it 2 times a month and shoot about 100 rounds a month.
maybe it is just me trying to make myself go out and spend more money on something new? i know i had a post about the ballistic tips.

Quilly -The bullets in the shooting times tests were in fact game kings as these are sierra's only bullet designed specifically for hunting.

My workhorse bullet in .270 & .30 calibers are the Speer Mag Tip Soft Points in 130gr and 150gr, respectively, for almost all my deer hunting. Occasionally, I'll load up some Sierra Prohunter Round Noses when I expect short range (under 100yd) work.

But you mention elk or moose, and I'll opt for the Nosler Partition, although Nosler Ballistic Tips have never failed me either. Don't like bear meat and don't need a bear rug - so I don't specifically load for them...but out of respect for the brutes I do carry a 10mm sidearm when in their neighbor.

I have had generally excellent results with the 30 cal. 180 grain flat base sierra spitzer on deer and feral hogs. I had a bad experience with the 270 cal. 130 flat base spitzer on an antelope(no penetration) and another on an elk with a 338 250 grain btsp(no expansion) but I would still use the 180 for deer hunting anytime.
