It will do the job if you put the slug in the right place, and shoot within the guns limitations. A 20 or 12ga would be a better choice if you have either.

BIG DITTO on the checking the regs first. I'd be hunting absolutely everything with my .410's if it were legal, but it isn't, so my wicked mini's stay in the case during deer season. I didn't check where you were from, so I don't know for sure what's legal or not for you, but you'd better check it out before you get in trouble.
I'd say for a .410, your best bet for ammo would be to find a way to load your own in 3" shells, that way you get the maximum effectiveness out of the little guys. You're going to have to get a lot closer than you would with a 12ga slug, just because you're not moving a whole lot faster, and you only have around half the weight, so you don't get the "dang I just got hit by a truck" look from the deer. It's going to be more comprable to a handgun or bow, and you should treat it as such.
Screw the 10 ring, keep them in the zero!!!

410 slugs are nasty little buggers. They outlawed the 410 for deer about 6 years ago in Ohio. Last year they re-instated it as a legal weapon. The DNR realized that a well-sighted 410 is as capable at 50 yards as many pistol calibers.
Just make sure to shoot a fair amount and know your limitations.

RE: .410 shutgun
I am from PA,and we have a special regulated areas where it is not aload to use rifels for hunting.only shotguns with slugs starting from .410 .
i think its because of the houses and people dencity.
well it sounds like the .410 going to work.
I wonder if any one had personal experiance using it in deer hunting ?
