I had a .270 that used to bruise my arm every time I took it to the range. I hated it. Got rid of the thing about the same time I picked up my 45-70 which has never bothered me.

DAMNNNNNNN!!!!

you sure you were not drunk that night and got into a fight? that is one nasty looking bruise.
almost looks like what happened to my buddy when he first used his bolt action shotgun with 3" mag brenneke gold slugs.

for the record...

i think this the third post or so of someone having problems with recoil out of a 270win.

also when was the last time ( before you shot it and hurt your shoulder ) were at the range shooting that gun?

i know for some reason that after acouple of months of me not shooting ( for instince when i bought my new 450marlin ) i did not shoot my guns for quite some time. when i finnaly did .. oui did they all hurt ! even my 30-06sprg using 165gr's. and i could only shoot that 450marlin 20 times.
but after shooting them for some time i can shoot them all day.

maybe that could be your problem?

Quilly, I shoot atleast once a week,everything from 30-06, 7mm08,
12ga, 20 ga, 223,and 2 different 270's. I'm either shooting the rifles at the 100 and 200 yard range, or the shotguns at clay pidgeons. I guess this was just a freak thing!!

I have a Ruger M77 Mark II in a .270 and have shot it numerous times over the past couple of years. This year I broke it out and went to the range to do some shooting and DAMN, that little ol' .270 put a hurting on me. I went to the range on 3 seperate occasions and all with the same results, a hurt shoulder and poor groups. I came to realize that I was not holding the gun tight into the pocket of my shoulder, I was letting the recoil come back and put the pressure on the top (point of butt) of the butt pad. It was like someone was "frogging" me with their knuckle. What I did to solve the problem was first, concentrate on proper placement of the butt and two fold a t-shirt up and place it between my shoulder and butt. I am not shy of the recoil but the way I was holding it was making me not want to hold that gun. This greatly increased my goups and also made the gun fun to shoot again.

Ok fight you can trust ME!
You know my 270 had a nice punch and for some reason when i put it in a synthetic stock it felt better. wooden stocks , to me , seem to have more felt recoil.
But i still think tawanda was fightin for your gun! (and not a weapon)
