Hoppes, even 3 in one oil or WD40
Bronko, please do not use WD40 on any of your firearms..it is a disaster waiting to happen. It does not displace moisture

Correct, 40th formula tried and water displacing. I know it will "dry out" spark plug wires and get a vehicle started.
As for Mobil-1 I would think it would be fine, too. Only question is..........
As I know of no firearms equipped with an oil life/change monitor, how many miles between oil changes?

True - it will also, over time, gum up any mechanical device. I periodically get in rifles that are misfiring. First question is usually "did you ever use WD 40 on the bolt or trigger mechanism?" If so, a trip to the solvent tank (or a good soaking in a coffee can of gasoline, if out in the field) will usually take care of the problem.

NEVER, NEVER use WD-40 in Auto or House Locks. They will make the
waffers or pins sticky and make them hang up!
If you ever spray a combination lock on any safe, after a while you will
have a LOCK OUT and I use to charge $100 first hour plus tools/materials.
Than you also have to pay to have the door redone at shop.

Well, if you plan on using Mobil 1 in your firearms....just plan on changing it AT LEAST every 6 months....or 7500 miles....whichever comes first.
(Sorry, gentlemen....I couldn't help it.)
This is something to think about. I'm not sure that any motor oil would be up to the temperatures/ pressures generated in a rifle barrel.... then again, NO lubricant is up to that - or needs to be. So, I can't see the harm....unless, for some reason, the additive package (in all motor oils) might leave some sort of harmful deposits, or compounds (from the heat and pressure of the first shot). I have no idea. Interesting concept, though.
By the way, Carbon Tetrachloride is a known carcinogen. It also leaches THROUGH the skin...so, having it on bare skin is DANGEROUS...a definite health hazard. It is still used for various industrial processes...but should ONLY be used with a respirator and anti- chemical gloves...even an anti-chemical suit.
