Bc, have you ever used Remington Bore Cleaner? It removes
Lead, Copper, Carbon and Plastic-Wad fouling and it is not ammonia
based. If I were to use Alcohol, I would use Denatured Alcohol that
does'nt leave a residue.

OEH,
Rem-oil is ok... I prefer Breakfree-CLP or Kano Microil for their lubricating properties, but just about any decent gun oil (Rem-oil, Hoppe's, etc) is plenty adequate for rust prevention provided your not storing your gun for long periods.

Doe Dumper..I like mobil 1 but a pretty good argument was presented about no using it and it makes sense. I went to the not so local gunshop today and picked up Kroil..I 'll use it before i brush and lberally after I use ammonia . Hope it works You know I remember somewhere where some guys use GM top engine cleaner on the bore.

The brake and clutch cleaner is a really good solvent for getting something clean and leaving the surface dry. Kind of like Gun Scrubber, only faster drying and completely grease free. I like it for prepping screws and tapped holed before applying loctite. Also pretty good value compared to comparable cleaners.

Gentlemen, I wouldn't be too quick to apply Mobil 1 or any other synthetic motor oil to your firearms. Use Oils designed for this purpose, i.e. Rem Oil, Hoppes, even 3 in one oil or WD40. Motor oil is strictly a lubricant and does not have additives which inhibit rust. Some motor oils actually attract and hold moisture.
Just be careful what you put on your firearms.

After testing several gun lubricants and rust preventatives,I have settled on g-96 gun treatment. It is a light lubricant that does a good job of preventing corrosion.

Rebel Hog - I used to use a lot of carbontetrachloride - got it from Brownell's in qualitity. Supposedly, there is some health risk to using this stuff in an indoor environment - Brownell's quit carrying it. The stuff I'm using now will probably also kill me . . . .
