Recoil sensitive here. 6'5 220. Comes from when you are bout 4 or 5 and shoot a 12 gauges thats longer than you with a 3 inch mag in it and it stomps ya in the ground...lol. Dont ever do your kids like that...lol.

go shoot a 12 guage with 3 1/2" high brass mags in it. If you can handle that then your good.

I have both a .270 and a 7RM. The .270 shooting 130grain is like a little baby when compared to the 7 shooting 140grain. But that extra bit of kick won't slow me down come Deer season. The .270 is now being used by my 12 year old and my 8 year old is shooting a .260

Not an issue...a kind of rough 30'06.... 74gr Retumbo and a 140 gr Nosler @3200fps...worth the extra shove....of course if you own an '06....why bother???

To me it comes down to what you like to shoot. I can't find any joy in shooting a rifle that hurts my shoulder so I don't bother with them. The only exception for me are my 45-70's. I enjoy shooting the old Black Powder loads and for this I will wear whatever recoil protection that I need. The 7 Mags and 300 Mags are not worth the effort for me. In my older days I will hunt mostly deer and smaller rifles work just as well or better for deer. If I do another Elk hunt I still have my 30-06 and 270-280 class rifles.

I got a ruger 7mm mag with a synthetic after marker stock that is a softer rubber where it fits your shoulder. I'm shooting 140 grain bullet with a fairly hot load of powder and I don't have any problem with the recoil and I would call myself recoil sensitive. With the rubber stock I think it's less hurt than my buddies 308.

7 rem mag in a 700 with a r3 pad has nonexistent recoil.. I can shoot 40+ rounds at the range with a t-shirt on and not even have a mark on my shoulder or arm.

I think the whole issue comes down to this...
If you're worried about recoil before you buy the rifle, then psychologically, when you get it, it's going to kick the crap out of you. If recoil is even an issue, don't buy a 7mm magnum, it isn't a hard recoiling caliber but it is if you think it will be. I am not a recoil sensitive guy. I like a big thumping rifle. I have no problems up to and including the dreaded 460 Weatherby. However, some people do have a problem with recoil. My son was terrified of shooting his first cf. I promised him that he would never feel the recoil when he was shooting at game and he had no trouble after that. In all my years of shooting and hunting, one thing is true overall, at the range, it recoils, in the woods, never. I guess my point is, forget the da## recoil and buy a rifle that fits you, then develop good shooting habits. Nothing will make for a poorer marksman than recoil anticipation.

I have the 7mm rem mag in a Browning Safari Mk II Auto. My 10 year old girl shoots it. Not much recoil at all.
