RE: Winchester M70 .338 Mag, Max Effective Range
Federal makes a 225 gr Nosler accubond that is a efective ft/lb 1147 @ 900 yds,but it will be effective out to a 1000 as far as accuracy is concerned or deer(if you can efectivly shoot that far).
If you are looking for a good all-around bullet the 210 gr Nosler is all I ever use.I used to shoot the 250's but there realy is no reason, unless grizz are on the menu, and even then I would still used the 210 gr.If not I also had a guy load me up some 200 Balistic Tip's last year and thats what I shot my elk with(not the best elk medicine but it worked well),but I will go back to my 210 gr.
They also make a 180 Ballistic,200 SP,ballistic,225's,250's and even think you can get a 275 gr.
The .338 is a awsome round, you will have a good time with it.

RE: Winchester M70 .338 Mag, Max Effective Range
I was thinking about buying a replacement barrell for my M70 .338 mag, that would be an upgrade from the standard stainless thin "sporter" barrel that it came with. I'm looking for something that would be a direct insert but much heavier and able to shoot tighter groups and precision at long range. Does anyone have any suggestions, links, prices, experience?
