Default Specks or Crappie??

What do you call em, specks or crappie? same fish different name. we call em specks

I am from Iowa and go to college in Kansas and in both places they are both called crappie. And as far as I have seen in any book their propper name is crappie.

The proper name is either White Crappie ,and then you also have the Black Crappie.Living in Maryland for 22 years I'm used to calling them crappie. However; when I'm communicating with Floridians I call them Specks. We mostly have Black Crappie here and much bigger than Maryland crappie.

I call them crappie. Specks to me are sea trout.

every where I have lived MO, KS, CO, MASS, SC, and CA, they were always called crappie. the word specks to me is a specie of goose I hunted along with canadian gueese in the midwest.

They are mostly called White Perch down here, or Sac-A-Lait!
As Mez said, specks are Speckled Sea Trout where we are!
The other day I had to decide wether I was going White Perch fishing, or Speck fishing! You can do both on the Gulf Coast, but not at the same place!
