My current heavy weeds/lilly pads/timber setup is a 7'6" bass pro shops extreme rod with a shimano curado sf 200 baitcaster. I load it with 20 lb stren magnaflex and use jigs, tubes, and just about anything else that'll get the big boys outta the thick stuff.

Water clearity is going to determine how big of line you can get away with. Fishing the Mississippi River we were able to get away with 20lb test, go fish clear lakes & you wont catch a thing with that rope except for snags, drop dwon to 10-12lb.
