I'm going out shopping for some new rods and reels, I've always liked Zebco's but was interested in what everyone else thinks is also a good brand. I need a rod and reel thats heavy duty for cat what should I buy and what lb test line.

I like to use a Ambass. 6000 reel for cats. Berkley makes a good stiff rod as well as shimano, etc. Depends on your price range.

Zebco 808 will work just fine.

Here in Iowa they sell spinning rod combos for cats for about 40 bucks, my buddy bought one and put 17 lb big game on it. Good luck with the cats, i havent been able to fish them much everything has been so flooded out here

Wally world had a heck of a deal on a combo. Berkely 7' med=heavy action rod with ambass 6000 reel on it for $70.00

The reels are worth at least $60 by themselves.
