Salmon River Steelhead 3 days away!
The 20th of this month, I will be flyfishing for steelhead. It will be a LONG two hour drive up and the first time after steelies. My flybox is full, some pretty flies and some I should re-tie. For the most part, I feel pretty confident about hooking into at least one. There is that doubt though. It wouldn't be a shock to the system. I've been to the Salmon a total of four times after salmon and didn't hook one. I blame that on the fact that they don't eat when they spawn, but somehow others have success.
Wish me luck and if you have any pointers feel free to share! They will be put to good use. I hope to have a picture of a big fat steelie for you when I return.

some pointers are try to make far cast, stay out of sight where the fish can see you that is always a big facter when im fishing for steelies. Also hit the area hard most of the time guys are so ready to hook up that they go all over and dont stay in a spot for more than 5 minutes, they try following everybody else that is hooking em. also get that line in the water, cant catch em just standing there with the line out the water!!!! good luck and i hope you get a couple!!!!

I'm getting around to responding to your e-mail. Where you been anyway?
Nymph with small stonefly imitations seems to be the ticket......and different small egg patterns.
Ah hell you know what to do by now.
If the water is rising and you can get to the "Meadow Pool" of the Douglaston area......you should find some fish and less people.(first pool up from the estuary....nice bottleneck run at the top BEAUTIFUL!!)
Give em' hell bud and let me know how you did.
