I was wondering if anyone else makes their own filleting knives. The Walmarts in our area don't carry the nice little 4 inch jobber made by Rapala so I make my own..
Step A. I purchase old steak knives with hickory handles from garage sales at usually about 10 cents a piece.
StepB.Find a picture of the rapala knife on the internet...and draw that blade on the steak knife with a black permanent pen..
StepC. Grind the knife into shape..
StepD do a rough sharpen with grinder..
Step E use a finder grinder and whet stone to finish until you can cut a piece of paper cleanly without tearing it.
I like the 4inch knives for bluegills.
