Hey Partner,
You PMed me to ask about hooking up the Horny Toad..
I took some pics for ya..I did a research and many fishermen complain of the toad sliding back and getting loose..and missing alot of fish..Hooking the taod in the butt as pictured will allow you alot more cast without the toad loosing up on the hook and my hook ups have greatly increased..Try not to get excited when the fish attacks the toad.I treat it like a rubber worm ..when the line is straight I set the hook.
Gangly..note the slit in the bottom of the toad..I bring the end of my hook out to rest in that slit..Thetoad will always land when casted with the hook up..out of the weeds..Unlike most top water baits..the fish don't seem to feel the hook and will swallow the toad and run..that is when you set the hook..The lure also wants to sink so you must keep the bait moving..like swish..swish ..swish ..pause...swish ..swish swish.. pause ..just fast enough to keep it afloat..standing up in my boat helps alot..it keeps the toad's head up better.

RE: To Gangly
Than, gotta few pictures for you in the other post . I used a hook with a sprial near the eyelet and it kept the frog attached nicely after the good fight, but the hooks with spiral attachments are expensive so I'm gonna give your way a try and see how it works out. Thanx for the pictures, pictures are worth a thousand words, literally
