RE: lost the lunker...story inside
I'm finding here in Florida that the little bass are on the shoreline and the big bass are in deeper water. I went out yesterday evening to Saddle Creek. It was very windy..I could hardly find any bass on my depth finder.I got one hit..and one bass in the boat. A 1 1/2 pounder bit a 6 inch Christmas Tree Gambler worm.

WellI got my college finals over with today and hit the lake as soon as I got back to the house.
Started the day off good cathing a one pounder on the first cast. I then started fishing a large fallen tree close to the bank and on my fourth or fifth cast I felt a large bite and set the hook a little to late. Went right back to the same spot and WHAM! set the hook kept the line tight and reeled like it was for my life.
Got the fish to the boat and let out a scream as I picked it up. Put it on the scale and it was right under 9 lbs. My biggest to date was 5.2. Ended up catching 3 more bass all around 2 lbs. off the same tree before the rain moved in.
I will be going back there this weekend in hopes of landing another one of these big boys and will make sure I grab a camera this time.

I am sorry to here that but, keep at them, they should still be in the same areas right now.
I can not speak for Illinois, but up here they will not be on the beds until the first week of June. However everything right now is running about 2 weeks late so they may be a little late as well.

a little late for them to be on the beds josh[/blockquote]
if the bass are still on beds down here, i KNOW they havent finished spawning up there.
